THE BEST TOPWATER ACTION I'VE EVER SEEN
Some time ago my son and I went out in the Gulf and after some good snapper found schools of kingfish at Anchorite rock. We had one of the best days for stickbait action with plenty of kings caught and released. It was Coupa's first serious go at stickbaiting and he learnt how to swim the bait and get the strikes. Awesome day out...

Craziest Work Ups I've seen - Anchorite Rock

Amazing day out on the Hauraki Gulf with an incredible work up near Anchorite Rock. SO many boats and birds in such a small area all catching fish. I ran into Paul Senior from Ocean Angler and caught a feed from the work up and a stop at Wellington reef on the way home. What has the moon phases got to do with tieds.

    • @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
      @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 3 місяці тому

      The tides are controlled mostly by the moon phases (full moon, new moon etc). Here is a link to the science (National Geographic) education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/cause-effect-tides/ 'Forces that contribute to tides are called tidal constituents. The Earth’s rotation is a tidal constituent. The major tidal constituent is the moon’s gravitational pull on the Earth. '

      Hmmm I honestly cant explain it any more simply than I have.....I suggest you set up your rod/reel/leader like the rig in the video at 1:10 then, take the clip that is attached to the balloon and clip it to the mainline above the leader. That is the set up.

    • @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
      @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 6 місяців тому

      depends on how rocky the area is that you're fishing, how likely you are to encounter a big fish and how shy the fish are - 40lb would be a good start. If you are fishing in a spot that has a lot of pressure during the day then maybe go down to 30lb if you're not getting much action. In the Far North in remote spots where Im likely to encounter big fish I use 60lb.

    • @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
      @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 7 місяців тому

      Yeah no problem at all, Ive caught stacks of kahawai on mono. The good thing about mono is that it has some stretch so when the fish jumps and tries to throw the lure the line will help cushion the shock a bit and reduce the risk of the hook pulling or line snapping.

    • @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches
      @DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches 7 місяців тому

      Yes they are good mid level topwater reels. The drag/high gear ratio is designed for topwater. If you are expecting to encounter 25kg+ kings over shallow reefs then you will need heavy PE8 line and a higher rated reel but for 20M+ depths and kings up to 20kg they will do the job.
